Fear
This piece is entitled "Fear." At the moment it is in the concept stage. Fear means different things to different people. Most recently fear to Halia has meant "spotting" an event which can signal several things when someone is pregnant. For Halia it recently meant miscarriage. In a bid to exercise the memories of this event Halia decided to create a piece that objectified it in a bid to over come her fear.
Ultimately Halia envisages this piece maybe having 2 more segments, one fully white, the other fully red. This would suggest finality of the event. Or alternatively, halia is considering making it cyclical and have it go from fully red to fully white and back again. This would convey the notion of completeness from being to pregnant and no bleeding to no bleeding and not pregnant.
What does fear mean to you? Is it spotting or something else? Is there something you can do to exercise the pain associated with that fear in order to release yourself from its hold?
Chloë
The concept of 'the walk of the woman in the garden' was previous developed to depict an entirely different message - one of miscarriage. The back ground was intended to be white and the swirl sage green. The piece was to be entitled Chloë or new shoot. The bible talks about how we were knit together in our mother's womb and the swirl was indicative of loose and early knitting together, while the strand has a finite beginning and an end. Or another way of looking at it is two strands of wool that are being unravelled.
The colour green was chosen as it conveyed that sense of freshness and newness of life while the pure white back drop showed the pages of the new life still empty. I also intended to use Preciosa and Swarovski Crystals to add that touch of divine.
